Introduction
002

Under the full support of Department of Building (NUS), Greenery Technology Laboratory (GTL) was initialed and set up by Associate Professor Wong Nyuk Hien and Dr Chen Yu in 2007. The purpose of building GTL is to showcase the state-of-the-art technologies of strategically introducing plants into buildings, such as green roofs and vertical green walls, in the tropical climate. The laboratory consists of a roof next to Executive Room 1 in SDE 2 and a lift lobby inside.

004 All the systems, equipments, data loggers, weather station are installed outdoors while the servers, display monitor, posters are stationed indoors. Not only technologies themselves but also their environmental performances will be shown through the visual and quantitative results. We’d like to see GTL as a platform where the very first step of promoting green technologies in the tropical climate and more R&D work can be carried out. Currently, two systems are set up on the roof: a Shimizu Vertical Greenery System and an extensive rooftop garden.
